    These are IDE drives with MS pins to be jumpered. The built in cd drive is factory jumpered as a slave. Removing the Master jumper from the SSD results in a freeze at power up.

    I think the problem is in the drive itself.

    I've contacted Transcend about the problem and am waiting for a response.

    Transcend got back to me and suggested that I "format the drive as NTFS". What that has to do with it I don't understand. So I am returning the drive.

    It'd be interesting (to me anyway) to try it before returning it.
