W510 can't access UEFI bios

Hi,

Any advice is very welcome on this one :-)

I bought a manufacture refurbished W510 this week and finally got everything how I wanted yesterday including the hundreds of updates, 8.1 update and created my recovery usb - this is when things went downhill!

After creating the recovery media I checked the remove recovery partition (I didn't need it as I had bought the 8GB flash drive for this purpose and the space was welcomed on the tablet)

Anyway, I did all this and everything seemed fine so I shut it down - however when I turned it back on last night it would not boot and tells me to use my recovery media.

So I plugged in my recovery media turned the tablet off held down the volume and pressed power on to access the uefi bios to allow it to boot from usb but it's promoting me for a password.

Which I don't have! Surely a manufacture refurbished unit should not have one setup, should it?

I know how to repair or re install windows I'm just stumped at this password and want to no if there's a way of resetting this password or if there is another way to repair my installation.

All advice welcomed :-)

a few people including myself have this problem resetting bios password, i tried everything i could on my w510, but all indicates that we will need to send the device to a friendly Acer place. Try connecting usb keyboard and pressing f12 on boot (in my case this option has been disabled by whoever set the bios password). This should give you your boot options; use a hub if you want to boot from usb drive. good luck!

I thought you had to use power-volume the first time and then you could select the F12 boot selection, and that was all F12 got you was boot selection, not the BIOS setup.

Cheers for the replies guys, much appreciated.

I've tried everything and F12 is disabled so no luck there :-(

I'm currently waiting for the retailer to get back to me so hopefully it'll be sorted soon either with a password or a replacement unit :-)
