How do I get the Qualcomm ar5bwb222 WLAN adapter in V5-561P to connect to Linksys WRT160N at 802.11?

I have a V4-561P notebook that I am tryinh to vonnect to a Linksys WRT 160N router.  It will only connect on G Mode. If I set the routeer to N mode I loose connection and cannot connect until I set it bacl to G Mode or mixed mode.  I have used 2 different WRT 160N routers with the same outcome. I was in the same room as the routers so distance/interference is not the issue. Both were withing 20 feet with a clear line of sight.  Once was actually with in 18 inches.

One of the deciding factors to purchase this laptop was the ability to commect using N Mode.  Is this a Qualcomm issue? I see there are very few settings for the adapter.

I don't want to buy a new router if it is not the router, also I don't want the to have the laptop sent in for warranty if ir is not the problem sinc eit is only a couple of weeks old.  I just want it to connect in N mode as advertised.

Help, please.

Is your router set to dual band mode? I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a thread where some systems will only do single band N networks.

    Thanks for the reply.

I cannot get it to connect with any configuration in 802.11n mode.  I will only connect using 8.2.11G. I have used both wide and narrow bands(20mhz and 40 Mhz), different channels, and everythign in auto mode.  I have used 2 different WRT160N (a V1 and a V3). Same results.

  • My M5 also uses the AR5BWB222 and has no problems connecting to 2.4 and 5GHz 'n' networks.

Check your router settings. They should be set to:

Network Mode: 'Mixed' (for b/g/n) or 'Wireless-N Only'
Radio Band: 'Wide 40MHz' (This setting enables 'n' to use two channels concurrently and will increase performance.)

    Atheros AR5BWB222:

Not too many setting options available but check these:

Right click taskbar network icon and select 'Open Network and Sharing Center'
    Click your 'Wireless Network Connection'
    Click 'Wireless Properties'
Ensure 'Enable Atheros connection settings' is ticked.
    Click 'Configure...'
Ensure 'Enable 5 GHz Band' and 'Enable 2.4 GHz Band' are both ticked.
(For the record, I have 'Enable Radio Measurement' and 'Enable Advanced Roaming Setting' both ticked with 'Roaming Option' set to 'Default')

Click OK and back out to 'Network and Sharing Center' screen. (You may see your network reset at this point.)
Click your 'Wireless Network Connection' again and check your reported speed. Assuming successful and best 'n' connection, you should see 300.0Mbps. ('n' = 150Mbps-300Mbps. 'G' = 54Mbps-108Mbps. 'B' = 11Mbps.)

    Thanks.

I am running Windows 8.1 and am not able to go to the wireless propeties to make sure the  'Enable Atheros connection settings' is checked.

I have searched and found wireless properties GUI was removed in Win 8.

  • Unfortunately I don't have a single machine running Windows 8 so I can't advise you further.
Win8 is a dumbed-down OS in my view but I would be more than a little surprised if the ability to configure these settings was not available somewhere. After all, the need to configure hardware will always be present!
