u5-610 says s/pdif audio out, where do you find a 3.5mm s/pdif plug. or a peroper set of amplified speakers to work on the U5-610 series. I'm tird of boosting the audio on anything to 150% then turning amplified speakers to max to even hear music or dvd.

I ask Acer if they had the proper cables, or even spdif speaker set - sorry no they do not... so what I did was turn the volume on taskbar down to 10% - then turn the Amplified Speakers down to 50% every thing was set at 100%. taksbar and speakers... then moved the 3.5mm from the spdif plug, insert into headphone jack on left side.. looks like crap but it works... open a movie - set the audio level on player down to 25% - click start and then adjust so not screaming... right now Speakers set at 50%, taskbar set at 40%, video player at avg 40%. (depends on what player i use) sound great and very adjustable..

Can you post  a screenshot of the playback devices on your OS?

 

right click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of your bar (near the clock) and click on playback device.

 

i don't understand if you need also the optical cable with 3.5mm on one side, by the way it's better to contact Acer support to understand if the 3.5mm is optical or coaxial spdif.
