My Aspire V5-122P-0408 has begun to slow down. Slow putting characters on the screen after a keystroke or not putting a character @ all. Constantly having to backspace & re-type a character. As a relatively fast typist, I often look @ a line of type if not watching each keystroke, & characters are missing or a space is left out. Also slow on loading apps whether Internet or off-line apps like Word. Very frustrating when typing on Word! I know this isn't the fastest ghz system out there, but the slowness & keystroke issues in the last 3-4 weeks is getting irrating. Any helpful suggestions?

We first recommend you to update your security software and then, scan your system thoroughly to check if your system is infected by any kind of malware, viruses, Trojans etc. If your security software detects any kind of infected files, remove them instantly using the removal procedure recommended by your security software. Additionally, you can also use Malwarebytes anti-malware application to scan your system and remove infections therein (if any). To download and use Malwarebytes, you can refer to the link below and follow on-screen instructions:
    https://www.malwarebytes.org/

(Note: As Acer offers Windows 8/ 8.1 with its Aspire 122-P model, we presume that you are using Windows 8/ 8.1 and have accordingly suggested the below resolutions. Please do let us know if you are using any other version of Windows so that we can suggest you resolutions suitably).

If the above steps do not resolve your issue, you can perform a Disk Cleanup, Defragmentation or Check Disk.
To know how to perform a Disk Cleanup, you can refer to "Use Disk Cleanup" section on the following Microsoft support page:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/free-up-disk-space

To know how to perform Defragmentation, you can refer to "To optimize drives manually" section on the following Microsoft support page:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/improve-performance-optimizing-hard-drive

To perform Check Disk, you can refer to "To repair a drive" section on the following Microsoft support page:
(Note: You can perform the following operation for all your drives one-by-one to check if one or more of them have errors.)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/improve-performance-optimizing-hard-drive

If none of the above steps resolve your issue, you can consider refreshing, resetting, or restoring your system. To know the difference between the three options and to execute them, you can refer to the following Microsoft support page:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

I appreciate the response. I'm using AVG Business Edition virus software & it is up-to-date. No issues there

I have utilized malware software to search and identify infections.  No issues.

I am using W-8.1 having updated it from 8.0 when suggested.

I have done manual defrag, disk cleanup, and have restored back to an earlier date prior to the problem. Regretable but none of this helped increase the typing issue. I've dumped files to a 1 TB external HDD to see if I could improve performance by reducing memory utilized on the 500 GB internal HDD. Memory usage was not excessive, but tried it anyway.

It's just strange ... will be typing along like this and sudenly a lettr will be dropped or the typing just freezes then puts in all the letterrrrs I've hit as keystrokes. You can see an example in this paragrap. It's baffling! If I do not watch every word & keystrokthen I get such results as these. ( I just typed without visually editing or correcting )

If you have other suggestions, please share them. I utilize AVG PC-Tune-up routinely, but it has expired. I never noticed it being a big help, so wasn't concerned when it became inactive.

Ok, that's it GuruAid -- I appreciate your thoughts. Any help --- ANY HELP --- from anyone on the forum is greatly appreciated since I'm sure I'm not the only one in the boat with a problematic paddle. Thanks !!!

From your response, it seems that you have not run Check Disk yet. We recommend you to run Check Disk and see if that resolves your issue. To know how to run Check Disk, you can refer to our previous reply.
