Aspire 3810TZ faulty LCD cable?

My Aspire 3810TZ has developed a display fault, over a period of time, whereby mild to severe colour distortion is evident unless I wiggle the lid back and forth until I eventually find a position where the distortion dissappears. I imagine this is due to a faulty connection somewhere, probably in the LCD cable that passes through the left hinge - anyone else had this problem?

I have googled the cable part number (50.PCR0N.011) but it doesn't seem to be readily available - can you buy parts like this direct from Acer?

We have a Model E1-571, we purchased it in Oct. 2012, my wife opened it and turned it on, it started up normally and then the screen went grey, not black, but a grey color.

It wouldn't respond, so she restarted it, it started normally, but then smoke started coming out from the bottom of the screen right above the little rubber bumper on the left side of the screen. It melted a hole in the plastic cover around the screen and slightly distorted the computer cover on the outside.

We sent it in for warranty work, Acer has said that it was customer induced damage and want $200.00 to repair it, they will not accept any explaination of what happened.

I will NEVER buy another Acer product!!!!
