Aspire 4830T-6452 Spontaneous Power-off and Power-On...

Good morning:

I have owned an Aspire 4830T-6452 since May 2012, with largely satisfactory results. However, last week, the computer suddenly turned off and would not restart. I unplugged the unit, held down the power button for several seconds to discharge any residual voltage, plugged the unit in again, and attempted restarts with no success. Several hours later, I again attempted to start the computer, unsuccessfully.

Shortly thereafter, the computer spontaneously turned on! It ran successfully the rest of the day.

The next morning, it started fine, ran for a few hours, and then suddenly turned off again. Similar to the day before, the machine would not restart. Later, it DID start again, when the power button was pushed. Later still, it did NOT start with the button, but again spontaneously started later.

NOTE: When plugged in, status-lights on the computer suggest the battery is charging properly.

There seems to be no rhyme-or-reason to these power-off/power-on occurrences.

Last night, after leaving the Aspire alone (shut down and unplugged) for several days, I reconnected it and successfully powered up.

PLEASE NOTE: At this point, I became aware of the battery-reset button on bottom of the computer. I pressed it, as directed. The computer has been powered up for almost 24 hours now, with no problems.

I would appreciate insight on the issues I have described, and opinions on whether or not yesterday's battery-reset has most likely solved the problem. I have an overseas trip coming up in a few weeks, and would like to feel reasonably confident the problem is solved, or is at least manageable.

Thanks very much, for opinions and suggestions!

    hi...

When you shut down the computer the static charges are drained most of the times. However in some cases the charges are not drained and they will get accumulated and prevent the computer from booting. The power reset procedure will drain these charges and help boot the computer. The power reset using the reset pin hole has most likely solved the problem.

Sharanji, in your opinion, would these accumulated static charges also account for the spontaneous power-downs?

    hi...

Yes, however if this happens randomly, then there could be many other reasons.

Well, I'm sorry to report that after one week of flawless operation, my Acer laptop has again exhibited the "spontaneous power-off" problem. It occured yesterday, as I had approximately 3 programs open: Mozilla Thunderbird, Google Chrome, and perhaps one other...I don't recall.

Quite suddenly, Thunderbird closed, then Chrome (I think), and then the machine just turned off. I was unable to restart it, even after executing the various procedures outlined in the above posts. (Including resetting the battery, by way of the hole on bottom of the unit.)

If anyone has more ideas on what the problem is, I'd be grateful. It's such a shame to possibly consider this computer unusable, after only two years of service.

    Thank you...
