My A1 - 810 keeps downloading emails after they have been deleted. This is due to the recent update

The latest pop3 email client in KitKat is appalling frankly. Deleted emails keep being re-downloaded from the server, the interface is not to my liking, no bulk delete, have to select every email individually. Are there any tips out there please?

    Check this:

on the email application, on the top right of your pop3 account there are 3 dots, tap them.

    tap settings

    tap on your account

scroll down and tap on "Delete from server"

    choose your option

My options were "when I delete from inbox or never", I tried each at different times and still got the same previously deleted emails back in my inbox. This started with the update two days ago. Appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks, Babs

i don't have the default email kitkat application but can you check if swiping to the left the email to delete, this will fix the re-download?

Also check from your email provider if any "permission" to delete emails is available server side, sometimes you need to give permission to a device to delete emails.

as last solution, you can try K9 mail client, it's free and a good application:

Thanks for your input. I tried and yes the left swipe deletes inbox email, but it shows up again each time new email comes in. So I will have 6 then delete those and when 3 more come in I have an inbox with 9. Then it just gets worse.
Acer support says it's a IP problem. IP says it's Microsoft's problem ... NOooooo. it' my problem to figure out.
    Again I appreciate your help.

    Wait...Microsoft problem?

    Why?

by the way, try K9 mail in the link above, it's a really good email client or check if you can use IMAP instead of POP3.

I'm not sure about Microsoft ??? I believe it was a way to save face ... I wasn't getting any help from a 45 minute support call. I have to stay with roadrunner because of my book business. I will check K9. I will also check IMAP.
    Thanks

I don't know if it affects you, but I have seen similar symptoms when there's a problem with a corrupted email on the server. Your tablet does something like this sequence: Receive new emails, send emails queued on the tablet, delete appropriate emails from server. If the client fails during the send process then the delete never happens. Do you have unsent emails on your tablet? It can also show up during the receive process, but you typically stop getting newer mails since it fails before they are transfered and in your case I believe you're getting new ones.

I am getting the deleted emails back into the in-box along with new unread emails, the doesn't seem to be a solution at present.  I did a reset a few days ago, and when an update appeared and was installed all this started.  I do not have any sent mail or other mail in the folders.  suggestions???

Any chance the configuration is setup to login for receiving emails but not to login for sending? Anything that abort the send process, even something as simple as failing to login, might leave the emails undeleted on the server. Of course, I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely here. I have checked all the mail settings I can think of, there is no sent mail in folders or unsent mail waiting. This is driving me nuts!!! Now I have repeat inbox mails from 24 July to today everytime I delete. Maybe I should give up and just not delete any for a while. Thanks for your input,

It might be best to just try a different client and disable your current client. I wouldn't be surprised if that 'fixes' it... If you find you can't live with the new client, delete the old and reinstall it to (hopefully) reset whatever parameter is breaking things. I've had good luck with K9 Mail in the past...

When you say Login in for sending, please clearify. I set up incoming and outgoing mail as I always have on several different tablets in the past, and on this Acer after a reset. Before the reset and the update, everything worked fine.
    Thanks.

A typical email client will do three things while syncing email.

    1. It will connect to the server and ask for emails.
    2. It will connect to the server and send emails.
    3. It will connect to the server and perform housekeeping duties, such as deleting read emails.

Different clients may do those three things in different order, but most do 1 & 2 before 3. it's also possible that 3 will be merged into the tail end of 1 or 2. Each time it connects to the server it may or may not go through the authentication process. Some servers do not require authentication for sending email, for instance a server that uses your IP address to determine if you are allowed to send emails. Authentication of some sort is pretty much required for receiving emails of course, since otherwise it wouldn't know which emails you should get. What's most likely happening with your system is that either 1 or 2 is generating an error which causes the process to abort before 3 can happen.

Have you tried with K9 mail as we suggested?

just to narrow the problem to client side or server side.

SUCCESS ... I took the plunge to K-9. I had hesitated because I didn't think I could keep my roadrunner addy. Everything is working well now, and as huge thanks to all who responded. Hopes this also helps someone else.

Good to hear, K9 is a very good client but i'm worried about the default email client going crazy on re-downloading deleted emails.

if only i have this tablet, i will able to check on my side.

Very good to hear! now all we need to do is figure out why it failed in the first place. If you decide you like the first client better than K9, just remove the account from the original client, reboot to be on the safe side and add the account back in. That should clean out whatever badness was in there...

Believe me I won't be going back to Roadrunner email on THIS tablet.  No one could explain why all this "reemail after deleting" started and i certainly don't want to do it again.  My Acer laptop computer and my Samsung phone email all work fine.  It was something to do with the update I think, just a regular update not the one to come.  Again thanks for your help.  I do like K9 email.
