won't allow you to do anything. that error is the first screen that pops up...is there a way to set the system back to default settings?

This password is set in the BIOS settings.

since I don't know the password for the BIOS settings and I can't get to a screen other than the one with the error message on it is there a way I can get the system back to default settings, its not anything on there thats worth saving...

I think this should be more clarified: If there is no password set to enter the BIOS there could be a password set for your harddisk. This password has to be entered in the BIOS menu. There is somewhere a menu option to set or alter the harddisk password. Depending on the implementation of this password/protection there will only be a traditionally harddisk password defined or the harddisk internal encryption mechanism is encrypting the whole disk on base of this password. In the later case you have bricked your harddisk.

There is another possibility, it could be that only the "password on boot" functionality is enabled in BIOS, in the security settings. Because you don't have the password you would need to clear the CMOS. I don't know how to do that because your device is unknown to me.
