Aspire 6930g problem on boot

Something weird is happening the last week. When I press my Aspire 6930g power button, it shows nothing but a black screen. If i leave it like this for like 5 minutes and then restart, then the laptop would boot normally. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

When you press the power button the first time does it show any power lights indicating that it is on? Also, are you pressing the power button after the computer has gone into hibernate/sleep mode?

Yes, the button's light goes on and also the light for disk, num lock etc. Also the cpu fan spins normally. About your second part of your question the computer isn't on sleep mode for sure. Sometimes even if I wait for 10 minutes and restart it it doesn't boot.

    sarotnem,

It's hard to diagnose this without seeing the unit, but my best guess is there is a hardware problem if you are  getting that kind of delay for the system to reboot. This can be a problem with the power board, HDD, or even the mainboard. It definietly is not a software issue.

Only other thing I could suggest is make sure that you don't have any external storage devices connected when booting; ex: USB flash drive or an external HDD. Also, go into your BIOS and press F10 to reset all your BIOS settings to default just to make sure there has not been any changes.

I also think it has something to do with hardware and I think the cause is the mboard, as even with the HDD removed nothing seems to fix. As my last try,  I'll update the BIOS (of course I loaded default settings before) and see where I can get. Thank you.
