Can I change the screen resolution of my X203H monitor from 1600x900?

I got 2 X203H desktop monitors back in, I think 2010, as part of a Buy one, Get one free sale at a local Best Buy. One of my monitors is hooked up to a different computer at the moment, and the other one is hooked up to my HP Pavilion dv6t-6100 laptop. Before it was used with my laptop (which, by the way, it is hooked up to every now and again), it was used with my HP Pavilion a1110y desktop PC that died in January 2012. My a1110y had a screen resolution of 1900x600 after a NVidia graphics card was installed so that it would be compatible with the X203H. However, when it died, my dv6t-6100 started using it (which it actually hasn't used very frequently). Since the monitor's built-in, predefined resolution is 1900x600, and my laptop's built-in, predefined screen resolution is 1920x1080, the icons on my laptop's screen (as well as everything else on the display) change size so that when I unplug the monitor, the icons are all rearranged, since the minimum screen size is below 1280x960. Can I change the monitor's screen resolution from 1900x600 to make it bigger? If so, how do I make it so that the X203H monitor's programmed screen resolution is at least 1280x960 (and preferably 1920x1080)? The screen on the X203H is larger than that on my dv6t, so I don't see why the programmed screen resolution isn't as well.

The only reason why this monitor will not go to that resolution is because of the age of the computer. The maximum resolution that this monitor will support is 1680x1050 @ 60HZ. Sorry.
