Wake Up Acer Aspire M5

I own an Acer Aspire M5 481PT running Windows 8.1.  Is there any means of waking up the computer from sleep or hibernate mode without using the power button?

On other Windows computers I've owned, you could hit any key or wiggle the mouse to wake up the computer, even after it has been sleeping (hibernating) all night.

With my Aspire M5 the only way is the power button.  Sometimes this works okay and I just log back in.  About half of the time my computer reboots and I have to restart all of my programs, or worse try to determine which autosaved version of a file lost in the reboot I want to keep.

Any help is appreciated.

If you're unable to wake up the system with your mouse or keyboard, you need to make sure those devices are enabled to do so. Here's how you can check that:

    1. Press the 'Windows key + R' to bring up the run box.
    2. Type in 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotes).
    3. In the device manager, click on the + sign before mouse expand them.
    4. Right click on the mouse and click on properties.
    5. Go to the 'Power Management' tab.
    6. Make sure the 'Allow this device to wake the computer' option is checked.
    7. Do the same for keyboard
    8. Restart
You should now be able to wake up the computer with your mouse or keyboard.
