Charging issue with Acer Aspire One D255E

Hi, I've had an Acer Aspire One D255E for four years, and only now have I begun to experience a problem. A friend who's an IT expert told me to increase my battery capacity--I bought Acer because Consumer Reports said it had an 8 hour battery life, but it actually had only 1 1/2 hours--to fully charge it, let it go down to 10%, then recharge it again and again. I did this a few times, gaining another hour of time on the battery. But then one day as I was charging it, I noticed the power level started going down while plugged in. I also noticed the lights on the left corner of the netbook--icons lightbulb, battery, disks and wifi, from left to right--the ones with the lightbulb and battery icons were rapidly blinking, going back and forth between blue and orange. I shut it down and asked my IT friend about this, as well as another friend who works in an electronic store. I forgot what the IT guy said was the problem, the electronics store guy said something's wrong with the charging mechanism. I'm low income--took several months of saving to buy the netbook on sale--and can't really afford a geek charging $30 an hour to fix it. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

You probably have a problem with the DC jack or the AC adapter. There are videos on youtube that can show you how to fix the DC jack issue.

Guess what? A couple of days after I posted, I went ahead, put the battery back in, plugged in, and it finished recharging without a problem. Come to think of it, there was a guy sitting across from me in the library, and his foot pushed the DC charger slightly out of the outlet. I pushed it back in, and that's when the problem happened. But thank you for replying--I'll keep those YouTube videos in mind.
