Well when you downgraded to windows XP pro you generally should have made a set of Recovery disk if you did not you may buy the set from Acer at www.Store.acer.com

How about the eRecovery or front panel recovery button back to original factory defaults? Would that restore the original Win 7 OS?

    Trye this one

How to recovery your system from bootup

    1. Locate the Alt key, to the left of the space bar, and F10, on the top row of keys.
    2. Power the system on.
    3. When the system is powered on, tap the Alt and F10 keys together at the same time when the Acer splash screen appears.
It should state "Please wait a moment..." with the Acer logo in the upper left hand corner.
    4. At the eRecovery Management menu it will ask you how to restore.
    5. Click on the restore option you would like to use.

This will be restore your Win7 if, if you dont ess with hidden recovery partition. So answear on your question is YES (of course if you still have this Recovery partition or Recovery Disk).

Generally yes but that only applies to the unit If you did not do the downgrade. If you wanted to swap X64 with X86 (AKA 32bit) recovery would work but I do not believe ALT F10 will restore the windows 7 OS if you installed the XP pro.

Thank's for all of the timely responses. Here's how it turned out. I first tried eRecovery using the restore OS and save users data option. That restored the XP Pro OS again without giving me any choice. I then tried eRecovery using the restore to factory defaults. I was then given the choice of XP Pro or Win 7. Chose Win 7 and everything went fine, i have a factory default Win 7 Pro machine again. I'm guessing the restore partion must have XP and 7 images since i was never prompted for media, good thing since i had none anyway. (i made full backups before starting any of this since the factory restore wiped all of the data on C drive, however, the D drive still has all of my original data left untouched) Thanks again for all the responses, the machine is running fine now, getting a ton of MS updates.
