X1470 Hardware Reserved memory problem

Have an Aspire X1470 SNID 14204859330 running windows 7 x64.  had several blue screen issues and suspected the memory due to the randomnes.  It had 4Gb memory so I added 4gb more (2gb x 4 chips), moved the old memory to the blue slots and installed the new memory in the black slots.

 

BIOS recognizes 8Gb of memory.  Windows memory tests from the MMC pass every time.  Windows shows 8gb of memory and 3.5Gb usable. Reboot and it might show 5.74Gb usable.  sometimes 4.5Gb usable, it changes every time.   All the lost memory in the Windows Resource Monitor will show as "Hardware Reserved"

 

Most of the discussion posts say you cannot change these parameters and that is he way t is.  I find it hard to believe that the hardware randomly selects more than half the system memory for its own use.  BTW I did upgrade the BIOS to the latest from the support pages, R4 I believe.

 

Any suggestions?

I found a Microsoft KB article that may address your issue; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978610. Another thing I found with other Windows 7 users that had the same problem was solved with using memory modules of the same brand and type. If you put in the OEM memory how does it show the memory allocation?

 

I would recommend using SDRAM DDR3 1333 MHz and make sure the ram is using the same timing as well. If the problem persists, contact technical support in your region.
