Touchscreen not working following advised factory restore

Acer customer services advised I restore my tablet to its factory settings as half my touchscreen wasn't working and after having reset it as advised the whole thing won't work at all and i can't get it to power off as the shut down/power off icon are in the part of the screen that isn't working. I've had it just over twelve months so just out of the warranty period (suspicious methinks) and it an absolute disgrace that the advice given by one of the so called technical experts has resulted in my tablet no working at all. Really really disappointed, angry and upset. I feel conned and cheated. I was given the option of booking it in to be looked at but that would cost almost £50-which i don't have. Please help. Any and all advise gratefully received

You can force a power off by pressing and holding the power button (could be 40 seconds if my memory is right). Typically touch screen issues are either caused by a wire coming loose inside or corrupted software. The reset usually fixes the second but it does require taking apart to fix the first. Less often the problem is a bad touchscreen and that even harder to fix than the loose wire...
