Acer Notebook - Very slow, popular problem, but still no refunds!!!

I am absolutely appalled to have bought a new laptop V5-123 a couple of weeks ago and have already had to reset to factory settings 3 times.  My problem is speed - or lack of it - to its response to anything I want it to do - and wifi is virtually non existent.  I have asked to return the item for a refund but no cooperation as it is not "policy".   All that has been offered is to return to the Acer (at my own expense!!!) for them to investigate and repair if necessary.

Since reading all the other countless problems on this and other websites regarding similar problems, I have now lost confidence in Acer to provide a decent product and want my money back!!  I have only owned it less than 3 weeks!

    Hello Amanda,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with speed of your system. Are there other signs that you may have noticed such as crashing or locking up? While I understand it is not a desirable outcome, I have to agree with the support team you've spoken with. If multiple reloads have not helped resolve your issues, it may require the service team to take a look at it and remedy and potential hardware problem.

Thanks but as I said - not good enough really is it?  I am not sure its hardware or just the amount of software that Acer load on that clogs up the system.  Whatever its really not on.  I have been back to retailer and they won't touch it as it is still within guarantee period (just 3 weeks old!).  I kind of feel I am stuck with something that is just not up to the job. Would rather return it for a refund but of course - you won't do that.  To my mind, if you can't produce really good machinery that does what it says on the tin with lightening speed (considering its workings etc) then it should be shelved.  Thanks anyway - will send it back and see what happens - how long is that going to take????

I'm not able to answer the question on how long it will take. That varies from region to region based on many factors. Your local Acer team would be able to answer that for you however.

Obviously, I haven't seen the computer, as I said previously  with multiple reloads and you're still left feeling there is an issue means someone else needs to take a look at it. But to address the statement "To my mind, if you can't produce really good machinery that does what it says on the tin with lightening speed (considering its workings etc) then it should be shelved." Computers have different specifications and that means they have quicker, quieter or more efficient components in them driving whatever task they're preforming. Some computers will be faster than others, but that comes with a different price tag. That doesn't mean you can't have some expectations, I just want to provide some perspective when comparing responsiveness of this computer to $1500 notebook, you'll see some differences.

    Amanda,

I was asking a few questions from other technicians to see if they knew of any issues or troubleshooting suggestions. One topic that was brought up that I thought might be worth trying is to go into the McAfee anti-virus and either let the scan complete, or stop it. Completely update McAfee and then allow it to do a complete scan. I was told of an issue where if McAfee's initial system scan is stopped, it will attempt to perform the scan on subsequent reboots until it is able to complete. This may not be a cure all, but if every time you're booting up you have McAfee using all of your system resources it will definitely hinder the experience.
