Altos G540: Console Redirection and special Characters

I have a problem with an Acer Altos G540 machine I have to administrate since half a year:

The console redirection via Java won't allow special characters - so its completely useless.

The ActiveX redirection for IE doesn't work (-> session has timed out) - tried it from several clients.

 

Are these known issues? Solutions/workarounds available?

 

Is there any way of connecting via SOL or KVM over LAN with an external client software (TigerVNC)?

Your issue [java won’t allow special characters and Active X redirection for IE doesn’t work] you’ve been having for six months or more.

First we must check to see if the Implementing and Administering the ActiveX Installer Service are setup properly

What version on IE are you using [ IE 7, IE8, IE9 or IE 10]?

And also according to Microsoft, there are various compatibility issues that occur when you remotely administer Windows 2000-based computers from Windows XP-based computers and from Windows Server 2003-based computers and vice versa[see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304718].

As the server is mainly administrated from a Linux machine and standard browser for all clients within the network is firefox, the ActiveX redirection is the least important, but i will try to tets with several verisons of IE and ActiveX.

 

Host system on the server is debian Linux, character encoding and keyboard layout is identical on server host system and client(s). Via SSH the character encoding (including all characters, also special characters) works flawlessly, the problem has to be the JViewer-applet and/or java-version conflicts as the symptoms slightlsy differ between Java 6 and Java 7.

 

I also got an email from acer supprt - the problem should be fixed with the latest BIOS and BMC versions. This will be tested during scheduled updates on monday, i will also report back here at the forum for anyone encountering similar problems.
