Aspire 5742G does not wake up from standby

5742G with discrete Nividia and i5 560M Version.

When I put the device into standby and then press any keyboard-key or the powerbutton:

it shortly lives up, leds flash, odd initializes, then all leds off again for 1 sec, it shortly lives up again...

and so for all eternity until I longpress power for turning it off completely.

This issue happens OS independent. Hibernate is fine, only standby has the issue.

I guess that some part of the device-side ACPI commands does not work.

I have the latest Bios flashed. Happens too on older version.

I think the flashing tools do not overwrite some needed part of ACPI workings as in the flasher there are 2 files:

PEW71x64.fd  Extension suggests its one of those Insyde Bios images.

KBCA(somenumber).rom  I dunno what this is.

When I look into the scripts of the Dos Flasher, it seems to only use the fd file. What is the .rom file?

    Hello Gheddo_Moped,

Have you tried open your Screensaver configuration?

You can go through "ScreenSaver" > "Change Power Settings" > "Change Plan Settings" > "Change Advance Power Settings" > "When Sharing Media" and mark "Allow the computer to sleep."

It it still doesn't work, try to turn off "Hibernate" in your Power Options. ("Control Panel" > "Power Options" > "Change Plan Settings")

If it also still doesn't work, run "Command Prompt" (Start > type 'cmd' in the box and then you will see cmd.exe and right click on it and select "Run as Administrator").

In the Command Prompt dialogue, type "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" (without quatation marks) and hit enter.

It will take you into the new paragraph and type again "powercfg -lastwake" (without quatation marks), hit enter and restart your laptop.

After your computer finish restarting, try to enter the Windows and make your computer sleep and see if it is fixed.

    Regards,

    Dio I.

    I think you misunderstood me.

The problem is NOT: "The computer does not stay in standby (because of devices or mediaplayers preventing it)"

The issue is relevant to "Suspend", "Hybrid" doesnt work either but is not my primary concern, "Hibernate" works fine.

    --------

The problem IS: "The computer goes to standby and stays there but when I want to wake it up intentionally, it can not wake up again."

(As it is then trying to wake up, failing and trying again. I have let it try for an entire night but it wont either bring the system into usable state again, nor switch it off, nor go to S3-State again. The only method for breaking that loop is to force-poweroff it.

    -------

Nonetheless I tried your advice, which did not make a difference with the settings and windows also does not report any lingering devices.
