Good Morning everyone.

I recently purchased a W510 from craigslist, the tablet had no charger and would not poser up.

Upon purchasing a charger and powering up the tablet, I cannot login as the administrator.

The person I purchased the tablet from does not respond to text messages.

I have not been able to get the device to recognize any USB external devices which mean I cannot restore or recover the original software.

Does this mean I am stuck.

I have followed the instructions on several posts to try and get the tablet to boot to USB flash drive or dvd but nothing is working.

I even purchased: external powered USB hub, external keyboard, external dvd drive.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Bruce

I was able to resolve this once I purchased the keyboard dock.

All attempts without the dock failed.

It only took me 1 attempt with the dock to reinsall windows 8.1 on this tablet and installed the drivers.

    hi...

Do you have the USB recovery disc that was shipped with this tablet?

In the recovery environment, you cannot use the touchscreen or the keyboard and touchpad of the docking station. You will need to use the USB mouse to make your selections

You will need the following items to follow the below steps:
External USB DVD drive with AC Adapter. An external drive powered via the USB port will not work.
    USB Mouse

Use the following steps to reinstall Windows 8:

    1. Put your Iconia Tab W510 into its docking station.
    2. Connect the powered external DVD drive to the mini-USB port on the tablet. Use the supplied USB converter cable.
    3. Connect the USB mouse to the USB port on the docking station.
    4. Insert the disk labelled System DVD into the DVD drive.
    5. Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press the F2 key, or the DEL key if you have a desktop, to enter the BIOS.
    6. Tap Security, and then choose [Set] to create a Supervisor password.
    7. After your password is set, select Boot, then select Enabled and choose Disabled to disable secure boot.
    8. Tap Main, then tap F12 Boot Menu. Change the Boot Menu setting to Enabled.
    9. Press the F10 key to save changes and restart the system.
    10. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press the F12 key to enter the Boot Menu.
    11. Select the DVD Drive, and press ENTER.
    12. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
If you have a unit from US or Canada, you may purchase the recovery disc from Acer store :Acer Store

    hi...

You need to disable secure boot option in BIOS to boot from windows 8.1 disc.
    1. Completely shut down the tablet.
    2. Enter the BIOS.
    3. Tap Security.
    4. Under Set Supervisor Password, tap Enter.
    5. Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.
    6. Tap on the Boot tab.
    7. Below Secure Boot, change the setting from Enabled to Disabled.
    8. Save your settings by selecting Exit and tapping on Exit Saving Changes.

    Sharanji,

I followed the steps you posted below but this did not allow me to boot to dvd.

I am most likely going to have to send it in to have it wiped clean.

Can you provide a link where I can get a cost estimate since i bought it used not new.

    Thanks,

    Bruce
