Windows failed to start and a whole lot more!

Last night my computer was working fine and then I unplugged my daughters MP3 player without "ejecting" it first. My screen went black but I thought maybe the battery was dead and didn't think anything of it. Today when turning the computer on it says "windows failed to start" and that it may be do to new hardware or software and asks if I was to run the repair(recommened) or start normally. When I try to run the repair it says the errors can not be fixed automatically. I tried doing a system restore point to a couple of days ago when the computer was working fine but it says there is a error in the D: drive disk and asks if I want to scan for errors and automatically fix, which I do but then it says there are no errors and that the D; Drive is ready to restore. Although it doesnt actually work, it will just go back and forth that way. I have tried running a system restore by pressing alt f10 and restore saving user data and it times out and wont do it. I have tried starting it in safe mode, I have tied plugging the MP3 player back in and none of this is working. I do not have disks or images to restore from. Any suggestions?

It might help if you tell us what Acer model and Windows version you have.
