S7 391-9427 "No bootable device found please restart" message at black screen; overheating

My laptop is about 8 weeks out of warranty.  The problem occurred at least 4 times in the past 6 weeks and leaves the machine inoperable.  The odd thing is that each time it seemed to resolve itself, and time to resolution differed in each occurrence (from 2 - 10 days).

The most recent occurrence happened yesterday while in the middle of reading email.  The machine rebooted out of the blue;  the Acer logo appeared followed by a black screen and "No bootable device found" message.  I tried plugging the power adapter in, pressing/holding the power button, unplugging, and many of the suggestions I found in the forums which resolved other users' similar problems.  Unfortunately, I continued to get the error message and was unable to boot the machine.   Today, I left the machine plugged in or about 6 hours and returned to find it terribly hot and with the same message.  I immediately unplugged it.  A few hours later, expecting it to be fried, I opened the top and voila, it booted up as if nothing happened.

A previous situation occurred when the battery was very low and had been unable to plug the AC adapter in before it powered down.  Once I plugged it in, I got the unable to boot message.  As I recall, once the machine was able to get past the boot problem and boot up, the blue screen indicated a BIOS update was processing.

According to other posts, there appears to be a BIOS issue.  At this point, I am uncomfortable trying on my own. I am no techie,  but I'm aware of the hazards of power interruptions during a BIOS update.  The thing is there had been no indication whatsoever that a BIOS update had been imminent on any of the boot problem occcurrences.   I'm also extremely concerned about how intensely hot the machine became and the possiblilty the laptop causing of a fire.

I would greatly appreciate assistance in resolving this problem.

Sorry to hear you are having errors and overheating issues. Would it be possible for you to send me a private message with your name, email address, and telephone number, and I will have a technician contact you to assist?

After reviewing your thorough description of the problem, it seems like it is a hardware problem that would require service.  If you have any concerns, or would still like to speak with a technician, please let me know.

    Best regards,

Blayn, thank you for going out of your way to help me on this.  Since my original post, the problem has happened twice. It seems to happen when the battery is critically low.  Will ship out tomorrow.  Will the service center reference this information for details?

    Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Pamela

You should have an email from when the repair was set up with a description of the issues. If you feel it is detailed enough, then there is nothing else to do except mail the product. If you want additional information added, please let me know and I can add it to your repair order.

In the email I received, it indicates in the problem description "HDD not recognized", which is certainly part of the problem.  In attempting to back up my data today, I got a blue screen with a "kernel_error" messsage during the process, so I was unable to back up my data nor to remove my passcode.  The machine won't power up at all unless I have it plugged in, even though the battery has been charged, so I think there is a battery issue as well.  I just want to be sure the folks look at the problem globally.

I am enclosing a copy of the problem communication here and hoping they read it as well.  Perhaps you can make mention of the battery (and it overheating) and to refer to this topic/post.

    Thanks.

Many thanks to ACER-BLAYN for his help getting this problem resolved.  Acer replaced my faulty 256GB SSD, and my laptop has been working just fine.
