AR3700 nettop RAM upgrade

Okay, I had two 2Gb modules left over after a laptop RAM upgrade. On power-on, complete silence, no monitor output, no beeps, nothing. Tried cleaning up the modules, reseated them a bunch of times -- nothing. Put the old ones back in and moved on. At this point, just want to know if my RAM is just wrong, or if this is simply a matter of BIOS settings/bad contact, etc. Thanks!

Here's what's currently in this machine (working):

    Good day

You can upgrade the machine up to 4 GB of DDR3 800 MHz (single-channel support on two DIMMs). In this case, you can use atleast DDR3 1066MHz and not higher.

i'm not sure I get it. Is what i used the correct modules or not? I used two of whats shown in the photo. It's 1066 (533MHz) and the memory currently inside my 3700 is running at 400MHz, so i am not exceeding the max rating by any means. So, why is it failing to boot, then? Is the bios unable to set the timings by SPD, or what?

    Good day

Download PC Wizard and install it on your machine. Read the memory type using this applicationa and the memory voltage as well. This will guide you on the exact memory that you should get.

Freeza, is your browser blocking the embedded images, or are you just ignoring the initial post? I posted the CPU-Z screenshots of the RAM and SPD tabs along with the photo of the module I tried to use for upgrade.

    Good day

I have blocked embedded images on my network. I use my own company network and I have blocked it because employees are "misbehaving"

Well, I don't know what to add at this point. This is the memory tab from CPU-Z (RAM that's currently working on my machine): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62967451/mem1.jpg

This is the SPD data: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62967451/mem2.jpg

And here's what I tried to stick in there: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62967451/plank.jpg

It does appear that these modules should run without a problem at 400MHz, the voltage is the same. This leaves us with timings and I am unable to access the timings settings in this BIOS.

    Hello.

i just think your machine is not compalible with 2Rx8" means "Double Rank"

Your Samsung 1gb ram is 1Rx8. And new one are 2Rx8.

Trye upgrade BIOS maybe its help, if not you need to buy new ram memory, and this page will be the best for You http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/

    Thanks!

Yeah, your comment on the rank seems to be spot on, although I may still try the BIOS update. Here's what's known to work on R3700: http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Standard-DRAM-Memory/Aspire-Revo-R3700/td-p/26100

    Okay, reporting...

Flashed BIOS, loaded defaults, it does NOT work with the twi-sided (double rank) memory, same behavior as before. At least now we know this for sure. Thanks Tom!
