Problem: Spontaneous power loss (unexpected shutdown)

Purpose: I am posting not to seek help I have hopefully fixed the defect, I am posting in case someone else has the same problem.

Symptom: Soon after arrival my acer would shut down at random moments I attributed the problem to software conflict. While attempting upgrade to win8.1 the install crashed and nearly killed win8.0, I now believe the crash was caused by an unexpected shutdown. I then went through a time consuming “OS refresh” which returned the OS to factory setting, it did preserve my files (as promised) but wiped all my programs (surprise). As time passed the shutdowns became more frequent to the point that the PC was not suitable for use. It would often shut down while trying to reboot. Component services logs were wipped out on April 19, 2014; however, from Arpil 20-30 there were about 22 unexpected shutdowns recorded & I know not all events were recorded.

Diagnosis: Finally determined that the shut downs were only occurring on battery. I attempted to recreate a shutdown by flexing the case, but instead discovered that case flex resulted in several hours of normal operation. I started searching the forums and found a model S7-391 owner who had similar shutdown issues caused by loose battery screws.

Fix: Removed case bottom & torqued battery hold down screws (did not remove the battery). PC has been working normally since, now at 7 days, no problem.

Side effect: 1) Since battery tightening PC has been running much cooler and battery life is much improved. I assume the loose battery connection increased electrical resistance causing the heat and battery drain. 2) I'm a bit disappointed in acer QC or the lack thereof.
