Is there a driver running in Windows 7 in support of the AcerScan 620UT scanner and where can it be found/accessed?

Thanks...

AcerScan products carried a one year warranty as products of Acer Peripherals.

The Peripherals division was spun off into a seperate company, BenQ, in 2001.

No additional drivers have been provided since that time.

The device should still be identified by Windows 7 and usable as a TWAIN device in applications which support scanning.

I've tried the existing latest version with Windows 7, you "Assumed" it was backwards compatible. Windows 7 doesn't work with this scanner, nor any MS Operating system past XP.  Now on that note, I do maintain an XP machine that needs the drivers, but they aren't available anywhere online (Unless you want to spring $40 or more on a third party download that may or may not work). My original set has become corrupted and unusable over the years. My 620UT is now 13 years old and has worked flawlessly, especially for a used one I paid about $40 for 10 years ago, now the driver download cost is the same. This unit must have been built in America with American parts, none of the new Chinese $@#% on the market today can come close to the American made quality. This is my last attempt before buying 3rd party software just to run the scanner on an older machine.

I have an Artec 1236 scanner and I went through hell tracking down the problem. HighTechRedneck came close with his observation that these scanners won't work with any OS past XP. In fact, most manufacturers stopped making flatbed scanners years ago, which means they stopped supporting their drivers as well.

What this means is that most scanner drivers are 32-bit, and newer OSs are 64 bit. 32 bit drivers WILL NOT INSTALL on 64 bit operating systems - which, of course, is every OS beyond XP. FWIW, my artec drivers wouldn't even install on my 64 bit XP, which is why I started investigating this problem.

There are SOME 64-bit drivers for flatbeds out there, and it looks like Acer/Benq *MIGHT* be one of them. The following thread appears to have a few solid solutions for you:

And if all else fails, Win 7 users can download and install "Windows XPM" for free. This is a virtual machine that has Win XP-32 pre-installed on it. Yes, virtual machines can "see" the host machine's ports and devices (such as scanners), and you can load 32-bit drivers onto the virtual machine.

For any other 64-bit OSs, there are other commercial virtual machines available into which you can install other OSs. These are often used to test software functionality during development or to isolate the host machine fom viruses when testing downloads.

But be advised, with the possible exception of setting up XPM on Win 7, virtual machines are not for the novice.
