Aspire 5251 black screen of death.

Hey there. Ive got an acer aspire 5251-1805. When hitting the power button the screen remains black. Nothing ever shows. It does not post or go through the bios.  The power button lights up the battery charging light is on and the light next to that is on. I can hear the fan and the HDD working.  To rule some things out the screen is brand new. The internal power jack is brand new in the laptop as well.

If i turn the computer on and off again several times it will eventually boot up and work fine. Verifying that all components of the computer do indeed still function properly.

I believe that the bios may have been corrupted some how. In my research into this issue ive found similar problems with the acer aspire ones and that you can flash the bios by creating a bootable flash drive with the fla**bleep**.exe program provided by acer and the binary file. The problem im having is that the binary file needs to be named specific to the model of laptop your working with.  Can anyone help me figure this out?

Don't mess with the bios until you check the graphics adapter and video ribbon cable and connectors. It doesn't sound like a bios issue despite what the low end guru claims. 8^)

First, HDMI or VGA out to a TV or monitor during one of these black screen episodes. You might have to use the Fn+F6 toggle.

If you get a TV display, you're adapter is OK.

Next, re-seat the ribbon cable at the screen and the MB. You'll have to remove the screen bezel and keyboard to access these connectors.

If re-seating the connectors doesn't solve the problem, you probably have an intermittent conductor break in the ribbon near the hinge area. usually due to the stress of opening and closing the lid too much. Get a new one from Amazon

I thought so too. The adapter worked just fine with an external monitor.  One thing i noticed during the black screen the wifi and hdd lights do not turn on but the rare times i can get it to come up those lights work fine.
