Acer Aspire S3-391 BIOS password reset

I have recently had a laptop returned to me by a colleague and it's saying it can't find a bootable device, this is not the issue as I'm well aware of teh variety of reasons that could casue this and the relivant fixes. However when I went to check the BIOS I was greated by a message asking for the BIOS password, something which neither myself or any of the IT techs at the company set.

I have checked with the user and they have no idea what a BIOS is and claims they haven't set a BIOS password. Is there any way we can remove/reset the BIOS password?

Some service providers offer to remove passwords from notebooks, however there will of course be a "fee" for this.

It is against forum policy to give you exact instruction on how to do this yourself so the way I see it you have two options, either surf the web a bit deeper and find the answer or phone your countries Acer support line and sent it in to have the password removed.

I generally find "someone" has set a password but is too embarressed to admit it.

Yeah that's what me and the SysAdmin suspected, kind of annoying though Smiley Sad.  I have already phoned Acer and they are willing to do it for £55.71 so you can imagine my responce to that lol.

If you break down the value you get from spending £55 you can probably agree it is not a bad deal :

£20 for postage & insurance both ways.

£35.71 for geting it booked in, passed to a technician, password removed & unit QC tested.

I can tell you from previous experience to get the job done you need 3 hands........so it is not a 1 man job, admittedly you only need a 2nd person for 30 secs but it is not as simple as you think.

    £55.71 is not a bad price I don't think.

got the service manual off a website, looks simple enough just make sure I don't slip lol. I must say I do think its bad design to have to short anything especially when there is a high proability you could short somethign else with it's porximity to other items on the board.

Yeah the price isn't bad expect we bought 11 laptops and so far have snet them to acer 17 times for repairs, and now the warrenty has run out. So only way we would be happy would be if it was free.
