continuous reboot

Sometimes when I turn on my acer 5250 it will start to turn on, but then beeps once and shuts down, then does it again and again. I have to power off by holding down the power button for a long time, then remove the battery and reinsert it and try again. It usually starts normally after I do this one, two or maybe three times.

Is this a battery problem, a power supply problem or hard drive problem? I have heard all three opinions from friends.

Any help is appreciated before I start replacing things.

    Hi RJack

You'll have to try a few things out before we can be sure.

    1. Try using your laptop without the battery inserted (IE on mains supply) - Although, some laptops will fail to boot without the battery inserted, so this may be a non-starter!

    2. See if you can borrow a charger from a friend or family member - just make sure that the voltage input/output is the same

    3. Not sure if it is the hard drive - switching off or restarting is not usually a symptom of a faulty HDD.

Try the above, and report back with any issues or problems!

Thank you for the advice. I did not think about the power cord as a possibility. I'll give that a shot.
