Acer Desktop won't turn on

I cleaned my computer yesterday and unfortunately that involved removing the CPU. When putting it back together, I plugged it in to make sure the fans and hard drive would turn on before putting the CPU back in. Everything worked. I put the CPU in and added the heat sink but forgot to plug in the fan above it. I plugged the computer in, it started up, the monitor worked and it started to load the OS then crashed. I checked the CPU and it had overheated so I unplugged the computer and decided to let that cool down before getting more heat sink and trying again today. Now, it still won't turn on regardless if the CPU is in or not.

 

I have an Acer Aspire desktop

 

Random other details that might help:

 

The power cable is fine.

Everything is plugged in correctly on the motherboard (except, currently the processor)

Nothing lights up and no sounds are made then the power cable is plugged in

Before adding the processor, simply plugging it in would turn it on. With the processor, I had to click the power button. Now, neither turn it on.

 

 

EDIT: I tried using a different power supply with the same setting (115) and still nothing happened. So I guess the question is, did I fry my motherboard? Or do motherboards have some sort of "safety" for overheating where they can't turn back on until you reset them, etc? If so, how would you do that.. I tried removing the battery for a couple minutes, replacing it then reconnecting the power supply and nothing changed.

I know you've checked, but double check that all cables are firmly and correctly connected. If your mains plug is fused - it may have blown, so replace it, if need be.

 

But there is a chance you may have (accidentally) rendered the board dead. Other than taking the board out and swapping components etc, take it to a local PC store, who can confirm this for you.
