Aspire 5733-6838 laptop

I was messing around with my laptop and exploring the newer features of the operating system. (I am a previous XP desktop user)

 

I started the "memory scan" because it had been slow while online. Anyway, I hit the "Esc" key to stop it, no response. I then tried the three finger salute of "Contrl" + "Alt" + "Del" keys. I got the "restart" message and then nothing. Now the machine will not even power up at all? I hit the pwr button, the blue light flashes for few seconds then nothing?

 

I have removed the battery pack and held down the pwr button 30 seconds as I saw suggested on another post. I also removed the batter pack and re-inserted the RAM into a different slot. Still getting just the flashing light and nothing else.

 

I suspect may have mucked up my memory? What memory does this model require? I may as well expand it to the maximum if I have to replace it.

 

Would someone please help? I don't want to take it to a repair shop and leave it for a while if this is something I can do myself at home in a few minutes. I doubt that I am the first one that has done this very same thing but haven't been able to find a post addressing this sort of issue.

    I called the company with whom I have an extended warranty plan this evening. I spoke with a technician and here are the instructions I was given. It seems to have worked for my problem.

     

    Remove the battery and hold down the power key for 30 seconds.

    With battery still removed, plug in electrical cord.

    Press power key. (it finally powered up for me Cat Very Happy)

    Power down.

    Replace battery.

    Power up again.

     

    It was explained to me that sometimes static electricity can build up on a mother board. Holding down the power key with battery removed allows that static to bleed off.

     

    Thought I would share this in case anyone else has a similiar problem.

    You need either PC3-10600  DDR3 or PC3-12800 DDR3, you can increase your memory up to 8GB.

    You are welcome, I am sorry I can not say that your RAM sticks are faulty but you can check them if you have access to another laptop.

    Tried installing new RAM and still a NO Go for power up. Talked to a tech @ Best Buy where I purchased the RAM and was told could be a number of things including the board. What is your imput on this matter?

    Yes, it could be the MB, you can get a used or refurbished MB and fix yourself, it's quite easy IMHO, there are lots of videos available in youtube, if you like to keep your laptop for another couple of years, go ahead and replace the MB.
