The CPU cooling fan normally operates intermittently depending on its temperature. There may be some dust buildup in the laptops air intake that might be causing the fan to operate more frequently --- this is also normal. You might want to try to vacuum the air intake port or blow into the air exhaust port to release some of this dust --- it may help.

Ok, the subject was a heartwarming gift. Presently the computer, which has been in my possession for 16 months, is running as quiet as coulld be-it usually does. However there are times that there are sounds that do not seem normal. The local Office Max manager told me that all laptops make sounds in particular after a year of use. I asked him if he thought that if the computer was sent to Acer if they could elimiante the extra sound(s). He says the sound(s) are normaal, and Acer would just send the computer back to me. I have read about a motorboat sound or grindind. Whichever are these sounds fixable o that they are not heard? Presently, sounds like a barber shop faintly. Usually the laptop is quite.

If Acer provides a tool, which have read about but cannot locate, then want to use theirs. Also, regarding the Diagnostic Tool a third party one already made me upset. Uninstalling was a scam made me wait, multiple offrs etc, etc. Luckily, though continually told to wait which took 45 minutes, the approximatly five(5)new additions to programs were uninstalled. Also, had noticed NOT to check, during downloading, wanting the Amazon toolbar. However, an Amazon program was listed on Programs in the Control Panel. deleted all, finally. Smiley Happy
