E1-572G randomly not responding

Hi

My brand new Acer E1-72G cam pre-installed with Windows 8. Since day 1, I have struggled with browsers and programs hanging, with a "not responding" error. When this happens, the mouse will still move around, but any clicks are delayed until the "not responding" disappears, then suddenly the machine tries to catch up with the clicks.

I have refreshed Windows 8, but the issue is still the same.

I have uninstalled McAfee antivirus, and reinstalled - still the same issue.

I have noticed that whenever this delay happens, the HDD on Resource Monitor goes up to 100%, and remains there until it recovers.

I initially thought this was a Windows issue, but MS has advised me to start with support from Acer rather...

Any advice please?

Shane

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing problems so early to owning your new Acer notebook. It sounds like you have done some basic troubleshooting. When you say you "refreshed Windows 8" did you restore factory settings using our built-in Acer Recovery Management software? This is however a last resort as I would hate for you to start over.

The problem you are experiencing can be a result of many different reasons. It could be malware/spyware, software installed, software problems, or processes being ran in the background that are trying to access the internet. Microsoft has a support article with some "hotfixes" that may address this problem. I would recommend visiting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286, and try the steps found under

the topic "My computer hangs or freezes randomly". If that still does not address you issue try the "Fix it" link under "My computer hangs or freezes when browsing in Internet Explorer".

If the above suggestions don't work, then it may be best to restore you Acer computer to factory settings using the Acer Recovery Management software.

Personally, I would do the following :

    All windows updates.

All driver updates from Acer support site.

    Update BIOS.

Remove bloatware (like Mcafee) as I view it as useless and a pain.  I prefer other AV products.

If the above does not fix the problem I would claim it as a hardware issue (as you already did a recovery). Acer has a Dead On Arrival policy (DOA) which you could take advantage of if the problem continues.  When did you buy it ? Try downloading and running the free verions of HDTune and test your hard drive.
