5736Z RAM query

Hi,

I have a 5736Z laptop which has 3GB RAM in it. I'm looking at upgrading it to give an improvement playing games (I know it's never going to be amazing based on the onboard graphics but it's what I have to work with) and I've read in places that it's only supported up to 4GB.

When updating drivers from the Acer website recently I also noticed a BIOS update (version 1.12) that mentions in the brief notes that 6GB and 8GB RAM has been stabilised (or something of that ilk, I can't remember the exact wording); my question is obviously relating to this. If I was to update the BIOS to 1.12 or higher would I be able to upgrade my RAM to more than 4GB (i.e. to 6 or 8GB assuming I can find some memory that fits the slots) or have I misread what the BIOS text is saying?

Apologies if this is a really stupid question, my knowledge of computers is fairly basic and doesn't go as far as BIOS updates!

Thanks in advance.

    Hi paulo187

The answer is "Maybe", providing the hardware can support it!

Download and run Crucial's scanner. This program will tell you everything you need to know about your computer's memory requirements (maximum RAM, largest amout per slot etc) and will even make recommendations for you!

The link I've provided is for the UK site, but you can change it to where you live, by clicking on the flag in the top right corner.
