aspire 5742 wireless never works

have had laptop since new. wireless has not worked in 2 years.....put the laptop away and used tablet instead. now want to use laptop and still cannot  access wireless. works fine when connected to desktop router by wire. updated drivers...nothing....I didn't buy this computer...never would have....but geesh wished it worked....suggestions? ready to toss out the window. thanks

It may be because the wireless card inside your 5742 is faulty. You have 2 options:

 

1. Take to your local PC store, to see if they can replace the wireless card for you. (You may like to try this yourself, If you're technical, and you can source a card).

 

2. Buy a wireless USB dongle, and use that instead. They're cheap enough and descreet, so it can be left in the laptop at all times. One like this should suffice:

I know how to change card and will...plan on doing it. I wish my nephew had come to me before buying this computer...sorry guys but it's a crock.....and it's a shame to have to use the external "card"...I still have a compaq from 05 that works great never ha a problem.....
