Restore failure

I have an Acer Aspire V5-571-6605, SNID *** running Windows 7. Suddenly today it wouldn't boot, giving me an old looking Windows "Repair" screen. When this couldn't fix the problem I tried restoring the O.S. using the Acer recovery disks I had previously made. However, on the third disk, the progress bar stopped at 100% and then froze. After about fifteen minutes of no activity I put the fourth disk in. This did nothing, so I restarted my laptop. Now I get a "BOOTMGR is missing" message and when I use F12 to boot off the first Acer recovery disk I get the Restore Type menu with the choice that allows the retention of user data disabled, even though it says it will transfer user data to C:\Backup1. How do I get my laptop to boot to windows again while retaining my data which was saved during the first restore attempt? I'm desperate because all I'm left with is my cell phone.

    Hi kwithers

It sounds as if you may have an issue with the hard drive. The only thing I can suggest, is to try a different hard drive inside your V5, and install Windows from your recovery disk on that.

Even if you have a spare small capacity drive, it will be worth trying to reinstall on that. If it works, then you could upgrade to a larger capacity one.
