Acer Aspire 7600U not booting everytime

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 7600U all in one PC. I is running Windows 8.1 (I upgraded from factory installed Windows 8). I am having a lot of issues with the power button and booting up.

Firstly I noticed that when the computer goes to sleep, there appears to be no way to wake it up. Pressing the power button doesnt appear to do anything. From what I can tell from other posts, this seems to be a known issue with no known resolution? So I have turned off the windows setting that controls the computer going to sleep and have only left on the setting to turn off the screen after a period of inactivity.

Secondly, and most importantly, if I shutdown the computer, and leave it for a while (over an hour), when I press the power button to boot up, it makes all the right sort of noises, but the screen doesnt turn on (at least that appears to be what is happening). The only option is to hold the power button down to force it to shutdown and then try again. Sometimes it works the second time, but other times it has taken 4 - 5 goes to get the screen to display anything. When it finally works it detects it wasn't shutdown properly and on the Acer loading screen it does some sort of check.

If I shutdown the computer, and then turn it on soon afterwards, it is fine and the screen loads. So it only appears to happen if the computer is shutdown for long periods of time. It feels like the screen has gone to sleep and is not waking up properly.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Cheers.

    Hi Brutus1980!

I think the best thing for you to do, is to contact Acer support for your region, and arrange a repair. There is definitely something not quite right with your PC!

I contacted Acer Support and they suggested I reinstall the OS from the factory restore partion. I did that, which installed Windows 8 and wiped everything on the PC. I then performed all the Windows Updates so the system is now a full up to date Windows 8 install (I didn't upgrade to Windows 8.1). Unfortunately I still have the same problem. Further to the original post, I have discovered a few more things that may help to identify the problem. The screen is set to turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity in Windows. When this happens, you can go up and touch the screen and it turns back on. But if you leave the computer turned on overnight, when you come back in the morning and touch the screen, or move the mouse of hit the keyboard, the screen doesn't turn back on. The computer is still running fine because I can pull out the usb keyboard and I hear the windows sound to indicate I unplugged the keyboard, but there is nothing on the screen.

Is there anything in the BIOS related to screen power settings that I could look at changing?

I will contact Acer Support again - but posting this hear in case you guys can help.

    Cheers!
