R7 Slow when USB 3.0 My Passport Ultra Connected

I've done everything that I can think of to figure this out but can't come up with a reason. I bought the R7 a couple of days ago and bought the WD drive at the same time. The R7 was VERY slow so I i did the usual - remove some programs, changed virus protection to something I was familiar with (yes - uninstalled pre-installed first), cleaned and optimized the hard drive, stopped a couple of the services, all to no avail. Was about to return the R7 so I removed the WD USB 3.0 drive then did some last minutes surfing in hopes of finding some kind of solution. I LOVE this thing! I am not a touch typist so the keyboard placement alone had me scrambling to find a way to keep it.

Once I unplugged the USB port the R7 worked fine..... I've done some testing since and it seems that if anything is plugged in to the 3.0 ports it goes back to being slow. BTW - I should mention that the WD drive was sitting idle (no activity light) all the while.

If anyone knows what is happening here I would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

I had a similar experience the other day when I'd connected a USB3 HDD to one of the left-hand ports, next to the port my USB nano-receiver for my mouse was using. I'd thought that the entire system was being stupidly slow, but I was assuming that from the jerky, erratic mouse pointer. Plugging the mouse into the USB on the other side of the R7 fixed it!
