unable to find a link to an OEM Win8 core, buil 9200, like the one my laptop was built with, I went ahead and bought the Acer recovery flashdrive, which I was assured by the Acer tech, could install my laptop with a new HDD just like it was manufactured originally.
The install went almost to the end of the fresh install to my new HDD, but stayed on the loop at the final 57th/58 of the apps install, an app called cleanup, and it does not let work in the Task Manager, the Control Panel, or into the Explorer, though all those icons or links are visible.
After shutting down which is supposed to close all apps, when I restart and log in, the install screen comes back on that app and all those problems are still there.
Before I bought the flashdrive from Acer, they told me that if I had any probems with it, they would help me with it, but now they refuse to help at all, on account of my laptop being out of warranty, although the help I need is with this new flashdrive I just bought from them!

Anyone has had this problem with the flashdrive bought from the Acer store?
And do they take it back for refund?

Also, it installed tons of software, but since I cannot get into the Control Panel, I cannot uninstall anything.

If I can't return the flashdrive to Acer for refund, is it possible to extract the plain Win8 image from  that flashdrive, and use that to create a new install flashdrive that would install only Win8, nothing else? (I would reinstall the laptop drivers manually)

    Refer the Link

It says "Upon receipt, you have 14 days to contact the Acer Store regarding any damage to the media".

IF there is any ISSUE with the USB media and you have contacted them within 14 days upon receiving the media, they will be able to help you.

Thanks for the link, but it says also:

"Opened software is not returnable. (Opening the mailer constitutes opening the software)" !!!!

How can you win with them?

Acer lied to me before the sale, they knew my laptop was out of warranty, but told me they would give me support for the flash drive. But after I bought it they would not give me any of the basic info that should have be included in the instructions, like, what settings your BIOS must be at, they refused to consider that this flash drive was a new purchase, they wanted to hear nothing of it just because my laptop itself was out of warranty. They lied to me before the sale, and they were really nasty after the sale of that flashdrive. I have never seen such a dishonest and rude service from a PC provider. There is no way to complain to higher level either, the corporate culture is incredibly closed to customers at Acer, the tech refused to escalate my situation, saying that "supervisors can't come to the phone".

To note also, I bought it on the phone with a debit card, and they refused to provide me with any receipt, email or otherwise. How is that, for a standard business practice? !!!!

    . . .

I don't know if the flash drive was the right one for my PC, but have to go on assuming they did not make a mistake.

    So  --

Putting aside this issue of Acer slamming the door in customers' face after they got your money, --

I do have this technical problem for which I opened this tropic,

I used that flashdrive with the BIOS Boot setting as UEFI, not Legacy.

Everything looked good, it rebooted fine to Win8, and took the usual Win8 settings selection (user name, date/time, etc.),

the START menu looks fine, but its icons do not work, and it goes on a loop on the last app it's installing, the 57th out of 58 apps. Does not let me do anything else, while this loading is going on endlessly,.

I started this thread looking for users who have bought the Win8 recovery flash drive from Acer like I did, and I'm hoping they can help me, even describing their procedure if it  did succeed? Please pitch in.... many thanks!
