I have been using this laptop for half a year or so, and had no problems. I mainly was gaming and used a HD TV via HDMI and everything went smooth. Recently i had to go back to my old monitor LG w1943 which does not have a hdmi. So i used the acer vga adapter that was provided, and most of my games FPS dropped to 20 or so... The worst thing is when i unplug it, the FPS doesn't increase. For example i used to play league of legends with very high and it was running on about 45-50fps via hdmi to my  HD TV, but when i plugged the monitor it dropped to 20-30. And same happened with other games. Tried updating drivers, and i updated inel hd graphic card drivers, but it not help. I know that the monitor does not have drivers for  windows 8. But the problem is, that when i unplug it, the fps does not rise.

How are your FPS without being connected to an external display?

As for the FPS difference when using HDMI or the Acer Converter Port to VGA, the adapter is converting the signal and this may be the reason for the loss in FPS. When you disconnect the external VGA display the port may still be considered active and this would cause the frames to stay low.
