I would like to downgrade my bios from 2.15 to 1.X.

The reasons why is because of UEFI mode and I need an unlocked bios so I can turn on my fans earlier en downclock my GPU. Why. Well. My laptop overheats to much in Ubuntu if I use my GPU(710M). If anyone knows how to downgrade the BIOS without change of bricking my laptop I would like hear it.

My laptop is a V3-571G with I7 3612QM, Nvidia 710M, 8 GB ram and Non-glare 15,6 fullhd

If your laptop works only on Ubuntu (Linux), you can flash on MS-DOS.

From 1.05 to 1.09, the bios file contains a DOS folder.

If you haven't installed Windows (dual boot), you'll not be able to return on 2.15. The versions from 1.10 to 2.21 have only a windows flash version.

To flash the bios with MS-DOS (more sure):

1- Make a MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive (USB key) with FlashBoot (Demo) or H.P. USB Disk Storage Format Tool

    2- Download the bios file.zip

3- Copy all files of DOS folder on USB key. (from flash it.exe to Update.BAT)

4- Boot on USB key (When you see Acer screen, press F12 - Boot Menu).

5- When you are on MS-DOS, type the command update.bat

6- If it's flash successfully, reboot your system (normally, it reboot automatically).

7- Enter on the bios setup utility, "Load optimazed defaults".

Thanks for the awser but it is not what I asked for. I want to downgrade my bios from 2.15 to 1.7 not upgrading it. I also have Windows back so I can flash within Windows. And if I flash it I want to make sure I can recover from a bad BIOS flash

  • Hello,

To upgrade or downgrade, this is the same way.

As the versions 1.-- haven't UEFI for windows 8, I don't know if the OS will work correctly. In this case, you'll not be able to re-flash it with the version 2.15 under windows.

I saw this article on the french ubuntu community (use a translator): Computer with UEFI

" if other systems (Windows Vista/7/8, GNU / Linux ...) of your computer are installed in UEFI mode, then install Ubuntu in UEFI Mode "

    Hi,

Do you realise that 2.15 is UEFI BIOS and 1.17 is a legacy BIOS, you can not downgrade to 1.17, I am afraid.

    Hello Acer,

I have Acer Aspire V3-571G, which ORIGINALY came with a non UEFI bios (Legacy Bios) - Version 1.13

While trying to upgrade to an UEFI bios, I came across a problem - the bios wouldn't update. So after hours of searching the internet I found a way, downloaded some other version (not from official acer website) and only then I downloaded official version of 2.21.  eventually I reached my goal and my bios is now version 2.21 UEFI Bios. Now here is the question:
When I switch to UEFI mode and restart, the Bios cannot recognize my hard drive and gives an error saying "No boot device to load from". But when I switch it back to Legacy mode, it works just fine as it used to be.
If you can please help me resolve this problem, I would be very grateful. Since the laptop is windows 8 ready, I expect it to have an UEFI so it can load faster.

    Thank You
