Disagnosing Boot Failure in Aspire 5552 [BIOS, CMOS, or MB?]

I'm here on behalf of a friend.

Her computer seemed to have had some kind of failure in the recent past,

without a real justification of why it happened.

Symptoms:

The computer is totally unresponsive.

The only response we get is when we hold down the power button for 3-4 seconds,

and the light next to the [battery] symbol flashes [red / orange] slowly.

Fans do no start, the HDD does not spin, BIOS does not show up.

I've taken the battery out and unplugged the machine for > 10 minues,

plugged it all in again and tried: nothing.

So, the light tells me there is at least something happening.

But it's not enough for me to know what is wrong with it.

Help is graciously appreciated.

    Hi bergmank

It may well be that the battery is dead - not holding a charge at all, or the charger isn't charging/working or both! I once had a charger where the green light on the charger lit, but it just didn't work. Replacing it solved the problem.

Have you tried powering the laptop just on mains power only (With battery inserted AND without the battery)? Is the problem the same or does it work?

Can you borrow a different charger to see if that works?
