New Acer Aspire M5 battery problems

I got this laptop because it claimed to have around 8 hours battery life, well, I got this like 4 days ago and the battery never lasts past 5 hours, with very light web surfing and mostly Microsoft Office work.  Have I been lied too?  I updated the Bios and everything and my brightness setting is not all the way up.  Am I doomed?  I got this because my last laptop, and HP laptop, had battery problems where it would die after 30 min.  Why do I always have bad battery luck?

    Hi dinorex79

Manufacturers always state "Up to X hours of battery life" because people use their laptop differently. Some programs (like Anti Virus) and more power hungry than others, so drain the battery quicker.

If the battery becomes worse quickly, then that may point to an issue with it. Contact Acer support to see if they can help. But if it stays at around 5 hours then that may be just how it is!

FWIW, my laptop (an Aspire E1-531) gives me around 2.5 hours, but was listed as up to 4.5.

A neighbour of mine has a Sony laptop that is supposed to be 6 hours, but only gets 3!

It might be worth investing in a spare battery, and keeping it charged, if you need mobile power!

dude thanks for your reply but all the reviewers online state that their test came out to be around 8 hours and some even 9.  So I don't know if ACER gave them the super version of my laptop on purpose for better battery results.  The thing is, because my laptop is an ultra-book it doesn't have external battery non-changeable battery.  Is there another solution for laptop with internal batteries?  are there any external solutions like extended battery packs for it?

Contact support then - your battery may have an issue. It should be covered under warranty.

Just to add on to what finlux has stated...

If you're getting 5 hours of battery life, I'm confident that the battery is not faulty, but there are some things you can do to extend the life. I would start by adjusting your power settings.

    1. Open your Charms Bar (Win + C)
    2. Click Settings
    3. Select Control Panel
    4. Select Hardware and Sound
    5. Under Power Options click Change Battery Settings
    6. You'll probably see Balanced as the current plan, you can click Change plan settings
    7. Click Change advanced power settings
    8. Under Display, adjust Display Brightness and other settings.

If you're Brightness is set to 100% on Battery, you're killing atleast 25% of your "up to x hours of battery life"
