eRecover Stalls at System Disk - Aspire 5750

Greetings -

After getting infected, I purchased the recovery disks from Acer.  Booting from the DVD/CD drive with the "System Disk" as per the instruction, it stalls.  I get a window saying "Please wait a moment" and the cursor spins... for HOURS...

Can anyone help me with this please?

Thanks in advance.

Turns out the screws in the harddrive fell out...  the 2 year warranty ran out last month - wouldn't you know.

Anyway, the drive is being replaced with a better one and all should be well.

    Thanks everyone!

Have you already tried using the internal hidden recovery partition?

    Thanks for the reply JackE

Windows won't boot, so I can't access the recovery partition...

There may be steps in between, but I think it could possibly be a bad HDD. If you can't boot off the recovery partitiona and RCD almost fails immediately, which it should be writing files to the HDD so it can start the process, I'm thinking HDD. It could possible be bad RCDs, but I kinda doubt it.

OK. As Clyde suggested it could be the HDD, or even the recovery disk. Is this a Win7 or Win8 recovery? Have you tried Alt + F10 combo at startup to access the partition?

Yes, JackE - I tried the alt+F10 to no avail...

I will have a friend look things over today and see if maybe there is a problem with the HDD

    Thanks,

What first led you to believe it was infected?

You mean it got slower and slower to even boot till it didn't boot anymore? Have you checked the bios settings by pressing F2 at the Acer logo? Does it see the HDD? Do you see any LED flash codes or hear any beep codes when powering on? Have you tried to boot into safe mode?

Hmmmm? I wouldn't think the screws would make much of a difference to the drive whether in or out as far as slowing things up anyway. But if a new drive solves the problem, AND you got your data off the old drive, AND it doesn't cost you more than   a new computer, well then I guess it's OK. 8^)

    Good luck!
