TV AT3258ML and Cable-TV Box incompatibility?

Hi

I'm having an issue that is a bit complex to describe, so I'm sorry for the long text.

Hope someone can help me to sort this out. Here it goes:

I have an Acer TV (model AT3258ML) that I've been using for almost 3 years with no problems connected to an antenna.

Recently I subscribed a cable tv service that uses a box (everybody around here calls it simply "box", I live in Portugal BTW) that connects to the TV through HDMI.

At first glance it just worked with no problems. But sometimes (and this is very erratic) sound and image get out of sync. If I select a new channel the problem goes away, but as some time passes it starts to go out of sync and the gap gets wider and wider. I'm talking of a 1 or 2 seconds lag. What's weird is this can happen one night or a couple days in a row and disappear for more than one month...

Obviously, the first suspect was the service provider. They say everything is ok with the signal.

Support said it could be a problem with the box and got me a new one. The guy that went to my house to intall it said it could be some sort of incompatibility between the box and my TV. The problems persist even with the new box.

Finally I'm starting to consider if some sort of incompatibility could cause the symptoms described above.

Some more things that lead me to think that the problem seems to have to do with the connection between box and the TV:

— If I disconnect and connect back the HDMI cable, sound and image will sync again.

— If I select an unused HDMI port as source and then select back the port where the cable is actually connected, the problem also disappears.

— The instructions manual that came with the box (the brand is Cisco) has a long list of TV brands and their codes (?) and Acer isn't there.

What do you think of this? Is there something I can do to sort this out?

Thanks in advance.

João
