I  tried to put a DVD in yesterday and it found it but when I clicked on it there were just loads of files? So got me thinking, can my laptop actually play DVD's?

Can anyone help?

OK, looks like you have a movie DVD with an audio/video format VOB  that Windows Media Player doesn't at the moment recognize. But you can download the Windows VOB player as freeware from this site. Try to install it and report back again.

Sure. Depends on what's on the disc. Data files. Game files. Music files. All of the above. What kind of files do you like?

Movies should work OK. What happened when you tried to watch the WW2 movie? Do you know what media players are installed on your Acer?

well i believe its just windows media player,

i put the disc in as normal and the drive found it, and said WORLD WAR Z DVD, but when i went to click on it, it just opened up another window full of files that just had loads of words. i tried to add it to windows media player but it just said unknown disc and wouldnt do anything, its odd. is there a difference media player i could download that would work?

Look for a file or files with a .WMV extension when you clicked on the DVD title. These are the Windows audio/video media files.  You may have to change your file view to 'details' in order to see the extension. Then click or double-click on those with the WMV extension. Report back.

okay ive put the disk in

its come up with DVD RW DRIVE (DSmiley Happy WORLD_WAR_Z

    so i click on it

then comes up with a file VIDEO_TS which i click on, then it comes up with numerous files saying VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VIDEO_TS.VOB then it goes on to add numbers to the files. ive tried clicking on them but a window pops up asking me how i want to open the file and look for something in the apps store... i cant see to open it? :/

(EDIT) if i choose to play one of those files in windows media player it comes up with this message.. 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file'
