Aspire One D150 Black Screen, can't flash bios

Member Posts: 1 New User

I have a Aspire One D150 that I am trying to fix for a collegue.  The system boots to the post screen and will start to boot into an OS (Either the WIndows XP install on the hard drive or a USB thumbdrive with a live linux distro on it)  but shortly after I choose to boot the OS, usually immediately, the screen goes black and all disk activity stops.

I am trying to flash the bios by putting the latest bios ( v1.09 ) by extracting it and the fla**bleep**.exe to the root of a fat formatted USB drive and then booting the netbook by pressing fn + esc and pressing the power button.  The problem is, the power button is supposed to flash however nothing happens while holding fn + esc + power, the power button just stays NOT lit.  If I try to hold fn + esc + power and then let go of the power button (while it is still not lit) the power comes on normally.  So.... what am I supposed to do if the proper way to fix the problem is to flash the bios but I can not seem to flash the bios ?

The initial problem is not a BIOS issue, as you are long past the BIOS when the OS starts to load.

For booting to Windows XP, it sounds like you may have a Windows corruption or driver issue.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

I have this problem too, but I've discovered that if I close the lid after pressing the power button, it will boot up ok. I just wait maybe 5 seconds before reopening the lid. Of course, that's just a workaround, I still seek a solution. Since yours is setup with a dual boot option, you might try this after making the OS choice.
