Fresh Windows 8 Install on ACER 725, flash drive boot not working

I gave up on installing Windows XP on my daughter's ao725-0687. I decided I can give her my retail copy of Windows 8. I'm trying to follow the steps from this post:

I was able to create a Windows 8 USB flash drive using the Microsoft USB tool, the drive is formatted to NTFS and is recognized in the Boot Order and is set as the first item. The Bios have been updated to the most recent version. I have done everything exactly like the above poster, but the install will not start. What am I overlooking?

-thanks,

Steve

We shipped the AO725 series with either Windows 7 or with Windows 8.

Your best bet would be to use recovery media to return the system to it's original factory load.  I'm going to guess that in this case it is Windows 7.  Then you can just upgrade from Windows 7.

You probably need to get into the BIOS and enable USB boot as the first boot device.

Can you create a bootable DVD instead?

Sometimes these USB boot tools don't work the way they are supposed to - and on top of this you also have the new storage formatting UEFI which causes USB boots not to work properly.
