acer 5610 battery causes fan to stop working

I've got a very weird situation here, hope someone can help me...

My acer 5610 sometimes just suddenly shutsdown. I've been figuring out what's going on and I know this:

- the battery is not recognized by the laptop, it's not charging and it's not found.

- with the battery inserted, the CPU fan doesn't run when temperatures start to rise. At about 85 degrees Celsius the cpu overheats and the laptop shutsdown.

- with the battery removed, the fan works just fine, it starts spinning when temperatures rise and keeps the cpu relatively cool.

So the battery is somehow preventing the fan from working!! How weird is that?

I've updated all drivers to the latest version, flashed the bios to the latest (3.60) version but the problem still persists. I think it's got something to do with the laptop not recognizing the battery, but I really don't know how to solve this.

oh.. yes I cleaned the fan and exhaust, everything runs smoothly.

any ideas would be appreciated!

regards,

Andrik
