how to reinstall OS (windows XP) on acer travellmate 4220?

Hi,

 

i need to reinstall windows xp on a travelmate4220 notebook. it's my old notebook i borrowed to a friend and she reformatted C partition and of course windows doesn't start now. i tried to reinstall from the cd but keep getting the "missing asms file" error.
recovery partition is still there but there's no way of getting the job done with that.

i thought maybe the cd is too scratched (it is!) or maybe the cd drive doesn't work properly ()beacuase of the asms error) and tried to install an old win98 and/or from an external cd drive. same thing.

 

what other solutions do you suggest?
i need to reactivate this notebook until i can afford to get a new one, so every help will be appreciated.

You state that the recovery partition is still available.

Did you attempt to use ALT+F10 to start the recovery?
