I am looking at buying a used Veriton M261. It has a windows vista license number but the hard drive has been formated. I need to know what I can use for install media and where I can get it? I have read that I can download an .ISO from maybe Microsoft and use that. I need to know if thats possible? I also would like to know if I can install Windows 7 and where to get drivers?

 Thanks

 Mike

    Hi Mike

Not sure if Acer still keep the recovery disks for your M261, but if you contact Acer support for your region, and click on the "Contact Acer" link, you should be able to email or phone a representative who will advise.

If the disks are no longer available, then you have 2 options:

    1. Borrow a Windows Vista disk. It must be the exact same version that was installed originally, IE Vista Home Basic or Vista Business. You can them use the license number on the side of your PC to install. Drivers will be on the Acer support site. If you can't borrow one, then you may have to buy a disk (if you can) and use the license number that came with it. Vista (as far as I'm aware) is not available as a download.

    2. Buy a Windows 7 disk - the chances are that WIndows update may find all/most drivers, or that the Vista drivers may work. I have upgraded quite a few PC's from Vista to 7 and this has worked in the vast majority.

    Hope this helps!
